Description

The Specialist- Litigation is a crucial role within our UAE Bank’s legal department, reporting directly to the Head of Litigation. This position is responsible for managing complex litigation matters, providing expert legal counsel, and safeguarding the bank’s interests in dispute resolution processes. The role demands a seasoned legal professional with extensive litigation experience in the banking sector, capable of navigating the intricate legal landscape of the UAE while upholding the bank’s reputation for integrity and compliance.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Complex Litigation Management:
  • Handle complex legal matters involving multiple stakeholders and competing interests.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive litigation strategies aligned with the bank’s objectives and risk
    appetite.
  • Analyze and interpret laws, regulations, and court decisions to assess their impact on ongoing and
    potential litigation.

2. Contract Review and Risk Assessment:

    • Review and analyze the organization’s business contracts in accordance with applicable laws, focusing on
      litigation-related risks.
    • Identify potential legal risks and recommend mitigation strategies to prevent future litigation.
    • Provide expert advice on contractual matters to various business units from a litigation perspective.

    3. Legal Research and Reporting:

      • Conduct comprehensive legal research on complex banking and finance litigation issues.
      • Prepare detailed reports and review the organization’s litigation strategy pertaining to ongoing and
        potential legal matters.
      • Stay abreast of legal developments in banking sector litigation and share insights with relevant
        stakeholders.

      4. Internal Legal Support:

        • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal business teams seeking litigation-related legal support.
        • Provide timely and practical legal advice to various departments on dispute resolution and litigation
          avoidance.
        • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate litigation considerations into business processes.

        5. Compliance Assistance:

          • Assist business units in complying with various legal requirements to minimize litigation risks.
          • Collaborate with compliance teams to develop and implement policies and procedures that align with
            regulatory standards and reduce legal exposure.
          • Conduct training sessions for staff on relevant legal topics and litigation risk management.

          Basic Qualifications, Skills & Experience

          • LLB or equivalent legal qualification from a recognized institution.
          • Professional legal qualification (e.g., bar admission) in the UAE or a recognized international jurisdiction.
          • Minimum of 8 years of progressive legal experience, with at least 5 years specializing in banking and
            finance litigation.
          • Comprehensive knowledge of UAE court procedures, banking laws, and regulatory requirements.
          • Proven track record in managing complex litigation and achieving favorable outcomes.
